About
In March 2022, a group of Kodiak citizens and collaborative agency partners came together to explore the creation of a reentry program for individuals who are returning to Kodiak Island after serving a period of incarceration. This was the beginning of what became the Kodiak Reentry Coalition and led to the creation of Kodiak Reentry, Inc. (KRI), a nonprofit membership corporation.
KRI now provides reentry services to those returning to Kodiak Island from incarceration
n an effort to reduce recidivism and achieve better outcomes for these individuals and their families.

Reentry Programs:
Reentry programs around the country and Alaska work to assist participants (clients) with a variety of services including but not limited to housing, health care, employment opportunities, substance use treatment opportunities, and other basic needs that give the participant stability and a healthier path forward. Reentry programs work with the Dept. of Corrections to meet the requirements of a participants probations and conditions of release. Reentry provides support but also helps provide guidance for accountability.
Improved Public Safety:
By helping people become productive members of society, Kodiak Reentry, Inc. can help make our community safer. As we give guidance to positive approaches in meeting needs and goals, we hope to reduce the amount of time our participants may feel hopeless and lost in the struggle to rebuild their lives.
Better Health Outcomes:
Kodiak Reentry, Inc., encourages and works with participants to adopt healthier lifestyles and access proper mental and physical health care. Barriers can include difficulty obtaining health insurance and finding an appropriate care provider to meet the participant's unique needs. With guidance, help with applications, and communication to find the best fit for our participants, health care can be better obtained.
Social Integration:
Kodiak Reentry, Inc. works to help reduce stigmas and foster understanding between community members and those who have been incarcerated. We hope to be a segway between community partners who provide housing and job opportunities as well as host healthy recreational activities that help our participants be part of the Kodiak Community. We can open lines of communication with members of the community to discuss how to create a positive and supportive environment for our returning citizens.
Stronger Communities:
Kodiak Reentry, Inc. works with community partners and agencies to explore and discover the root causes of recidivism and effective ways to combat those trends in our community. By addressing root causes the overall goal is to make our community a healthier and safer environment for all.
Economic Benefits:
By assisting and supporting participants returning to Kodiak from incarceration with needs such as housing, employment and training, and other basic needs, participants often find stability and become healthier and more productive members of our society. By finding stability they contribute to our community rather than be a drain on it.
